Main Task (Die-ary)

Prelim Task

Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

To answer this question I added tags to our main task, addressing what I have learnt and what Techniques I have implemented in our main task. Pause the video to view all annotations.

Looking back at our preliminary task, I have notice that I have learnt a large range of techniques. I have learnt how important planning and preparation is when you are filming. I also have learnt how to use camera angles and shots to portray different statuses. I have also learnt how to effectively implement music in the background to dramatically alter the mood in a scene. Another technique I learned whilst editing my main task was the use of video filter. Video filters was easy to apply and was very effective for adding on to the atmosphere of a scene. Continuity editing was something that I naturally added to our opening scene to add impact and leave the viewer comfortable and engaged. Overall there is much that I have learnt that has been expressed in our film opening.

Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

For this question I have compiled a video of all the technologies that I have dealt with in the process of constructing my product. To answer this evaluation question I have created a video explaining how I used the certain technologies we had and how it has benefited me in the process.

There were many things that I had to get used to in the process of constructing our opening sequence. For instance, before I started A-level media, I had never touched a Mac before. I had to learn by experience to get used to the Mac and some of its applications. The Mac was at the centre of all of all of the technologies that I have used and I have to say that it has performed very well in my experience with it. It was very fast, had many useful applications and never gave me any problems. I have also been introduced to new and very useful websites such as SlideShare. SlideShare allowed me to upload my PowerPoint presentation to my blog easily and quickly. Overall I believe that I have learnt new skills in filming and editing which will help me in future projects.

Evaluation Question 5 (Updated)

How did you attract/address your main target audience?

To attract our main target audience we created a poster which advertised the premiere reveal of our film opening. We took inspiration from other horror film posters which were from the same sub genre as us and we ultimately created our own. Bellow there are certain examples of horror film posters that  related to us.

Inspirational Posters

As we looked through the various horror film posters we noticed a trend appearing. They all were rather dark and mysterious which was an element that we tried to implement into our own poster. We also were intrigued by the way "The tall man" poster did not show the killers face. This added to the mystery and the depth to the character.

Our main task poster

Poster Analysis

Me and the group were thinking long and hard on how we can make the poster Dark and mysterious and we finally came up with this poster, which we created using Photoshop. What we instantly decided was that we couldn't show our main villain's face on our poster or our opening because it leaves the audience intrigued to watch the rest of the film and find out who this killer really is. We also felt that making the background dark and making the villain black and white made the diary and the title stand out which helped draw the viewers attention. We didn't just use our poster to attract our target audience, we also use word of mouth to alert our viewers of our movies presence. Word of mouth is an effective way to make people interested with a product, especially if it comes from someone the same age as them because they will find the product relateable which would make them more interested to watch the movie.

Where we presented our posters

Now it came to the task of printing the posters and setting them up where everyone can easily see them. The sixth form area was our main focus because this is where all of the sixth formers collect their food, study and mainly just chill out. So we thought, this was the perfect location to hang up the posters. We put posters all around the sixth form area. We mainly focused on main areas of interest such as the notice board and a couple of doors.

Interviews

When people showed up for the premier of our main task film opening we got everyone to respond to a questionnaire. Everyone who came fitted our main target audience except from one female student. We were first not quite sure if we should interview her because she did not fit our target audience but then we came to a conclusion that it was good for our research to get a females perspective of our main task to see how different the response might be.

We asked eight questions:

If this was the opening two minutes of a feature length film would you watch the rest?

Is there anything particular you would want to change if this was your film?

Would you pay to see this in the cinema? if so why?

How does this compare to other horror films you have seen?

Do you recognize yourself in any of these characters?

Do you think the costumes represent British Teenagers?

Would you recommend this to friends and family? if so why?

What features of our poster attracted you to this film?

Looking through our interviews i have noticed a few things that we could have changed in our main task to improve it. There were some good points that were brought up such as the fact that we did not show the killer that was chasing the victim in the chase scene. We could have shown a shadow or something to show that someone is chasing her. We realize that it would have made the scene more intense and dramatic. One of our interviewees also suggested that we could have added a scream to indicate the despair and agony of the victim at the end of the chase scene. I also personally believe that we could have added more dialogue to the group scene to express each characters personalities much clearer and make their stereotypes more obvious.

Evaluation question 4

Who would be the audience for your main task?

for question four I have created a Facebook profile of someone who perfectly sums up our target audience.

Taste in Television Shows

I believe that  he would be very interested in our film because he is a fan of horror movies. He also stated that his favorite film is "A Nightmare on Elm Street" which is an extreme horror just like our film. He also works part time which would mean that he would definitely be able to afford it and maybe bring some friends along with him. He is also a fan of American TV shows which would make our american stereotypes relatable to him. He is also single which could indicate that he may be bringing a date to see the film which would profit us. He is also around the same age as the characters in our film which will allow him to relate to our characters. His taste in music also must be taken into consideration, he seems to be into dark heavy metal which would link to the darkness that our film presents. Overall I believe that his personality and desires perfectly suit the target audience that we were trying to attract for our film.

Evaluation Question 3

Evaluation Question 2 (Updated)

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

For this question I will be comparing our main character (Liza) to three other similar characters in other films. This will help shed light on how we constructed our main character to represent a particular social group.

Cabin in the woods
 Dana (Kristen Connolly)

Both characters are playing the same roles in their separate films. They both play as the virgin victims in an extreme horror movie and there where certain adjustments to the actors to made them look like a pure and innocent virgin. Firstly we focused on the clothing, as you can see they both resemble the same style of clothing. They both went for simple clothing that isn't too revealing and not very colourful. This shows that the characters do not care about attracting men's attention with their bodies or clothing, which ultimately makes them seem quite innocent. They both also look as though they have no make up on, which makes them seem pure and natural. This would relate to some women in today's society that do not feel like they have to act, dress or look like anyone else. A way that our character deviates from the stereotypical norm, is that she gets killed first. Usually in extreme horror movies (especially Cabin in the woods) the innocent individual lasts to the end and ultimately survives however in our case the innocent female is killed which is likely to give the audience a shock.

Scream
Drew Barrymore (Casey)

The similarities between are apparent just by comparing each of the images however there are some obvious differences too. Firstly I would like to address the clothing on both of the characters. They both seem to have gone for the comfortable plain look because they are both wearing warm plain jumpers. This could indicate that they both don't care about their appearance. However when we delve deeper into their characters we learn more about their personalities. For instance Casey has blonde hair which links her to the stereotype that blonde girls are stupid and very girly which is completely contradictory to our character which is a brunet. You can also clearly tell that Casey is wearing make up and it is revealed in the movie that she does have a boyfriend. Casey is also portrayed as rather flirtatious when speaking to the stranger on the phone which then ultimately makes her seem less innocent and more overtly flirtatious. Liza's dialogue was limited to calling out people's names which would indicate that she is shy and quite.

In those cases Liza is seen as more of an innocent character which makes her fit the social stereotype of innocent female victim in horror films. A similarity that stands out most out of both characters is that they were both killed in the opening sequence of the film which completely goes against the social stereotype.

A Nightmare On Elm Street
Katie Cassidy (Kris)

The characters presented share a fair share of differences when it comes to physical appearance  For instance Kris shares the same colour hair as Casey which again, fits her in the stereotype of blonde women being unintelligent and very girly. The fact that she wears quite a bit of make up also adds to the assumption that she is a flirtatious girl. Kris also wears bright and revealing clothes which would imply that she is seeking male attention. Liza on the other hand, is a completely different story. She wears dark and comfortable clothes which isn't very revealing and she is also wearing no make up at all which suggests that she is not interested in attracting men.

Moving onto similarities. Both characters are being pursued by a person who wants to kill them. On one hand we have Liza, she is being tormented by a writer who is writing her death which that it coming to life, and on the other hand we have Kris, she is being stalked by a killer in her nightmares which she can not escape from.

Conclusion

Overall I believe that our character has,and has not conformed to the stereotype of a female teenager in a horror film because she is portrayed as shy and innocent which is generally not the case with most teenagers in horror films. They are usually loud, out going and flirtatious. To indicate this stereotype much more clearer the characters are usually blonde to show that they are very girly girls and overtly flirtatious. On the other hand female teenagers in horror films are usually considered weak and defenseless which is relateable to our opening because our character is victimized and eventually dies. The camera angles used in typical horror movies usually consists of close up camera shots of the face to show extreme emotions which is exactly what we ensured that we included in our film opening. Another camera angle that is commonly used in horror films to express weakness and vulnerability is the high angled shot. It is often used for the victim before his or hers death. We failed to incorporate this shot in our opening which is something that I wish we added.

Villain Comparison

Christian (Die-ary)

Hannibal Lecture (Silence of the Lambs)

Hannibal Lecture quite of similarities and differences in the way they are presented in the films they star in. First of all i would like to point out that there is a large age difference so that will effect most of the visual aspects which i was going to discus, such as the hair and the clothing. Christian is actually wearing rather formal and smart clothing for his age which makes him seem older and more mature which is not a usual convention for teenagers in horror films. Whereas we usually see Hannibal with a plain white shirt which makes him seem plain and bland which is completely contradictory to his personality.

Hannibal is a psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer which makes him a very good reader of the human emotions and he is also quite intelligent. Now Christian is a young author with a gift that allows him to write the deaths of anyone he desires, he is also rather intelligent in the way he speaks and writes. this makes them quite similar it that respect. Another important point worth mentioning is that the viewers never see Christians face in the opening. This is very common in horror movie, the villains face is usually shown later on in the movie in a dramatic fashion.

Shots that are usually used to express Hannibal Lectures and any villain's dominance and power are low angle shots. We have also implemented a low angle shot to express Christian's power when he is writing. We also made the scenes which Christian is in darker by editing the shots. This helps make the character more mysterious and threatening. In Silence of the Lambs they take a similar approach by making his scenes be in a secure prison. This immediately makes the viewer think that he is dangerous and threatening.

Evaluation Question 1

In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Still Photo Frame

Frame 1 (Top left): The Title of The film
The title is shown right at the end. The end of the opening sequence is accompanied with the closing of the diary to signify that the writer will return later to finish the book later. We gave the title a black outline to make it seem darker and more noticeable when the diary is in the background. The text instantly appears just before the fade to black transition to the diary then the fade to black occurs once more leaving just the Title and a black background. This is used to give emphasis to the titles power and significance. The contrast of red and black make the Title really look that much more appealing and menacing. The red from the text represents the blood shed with what is written in the author's diary.

Frame 2 (Top middle): Setting/Location
The first location shown to the viewers is Christian's office. This is where the murderer conducts his crimes so we thought we thought it would make a fitting establishing shot. We are establishing where and how the author kills people. The setting was decorated with props such as the diary itself and plants to make the scenery a homely feel. We also fitted black curtains to cover the sun light and make the shot look darker.

Frame 3 (Top Right): Costumes and Props
This shot shows one of the characters walking to a destination whilst looking smart and carrying a laptop bag. In this movie this character is considered the "smart guy" and we believe that we showed that to the audience with the use of costume and props. For instance, he is wearing glasses which would stereo typically infer that he is intelligent. He is also wearing smart clothing such as the suit jacket, cardigan and shirt, with a laptop bag which he is carrying like a suitcase. All these features come together to give the audience that the character is a smart and sophisticated individual.

Frame 4 (Middle left): Camera work and editing
The camera work and editing in this shot are matched effectively to build up a tense and dramatic moment. The shot presented in this frame is a still close up of the victim's feet passing the camera. We used our editing skills to cut to the point where she actually appears on screen and keep the shot going till she goes off screen, and then we move onto a different shot. We also used a video effect that darkens the edges of the screen giving the shot a darker and eerie feel to it. The camera work also influenced with the tension and build up to the scene by giving the sense of panic with the feet and keeping a sense of mystery by not showing the victims face in the shot.

Frame 5 (Middle Middle): Title font and style
The title font is shown not only at the end for the title but it is also shown throughout the opening and is also shown in this shot at the bottom of the shot. It shows the font we downloaded from "Dafont" and the name of it is "Hitman" We chose it because we admired its sharp edges and menacing appearance whilst at the same time being quite sophisticated. We wanted the font to match the personality of the author (Christian) and I think we did a good job in finding one that did. We didn't give the subtitled text black outlines as we did with the title text because we didn't want the text to distract the viewers too much from what is going on.

Frame 6 (Middle Right): Story and how the opening sets it up
The office scene does a good job in giving hints to what the story is about and setting it up. First of all throughout this scene there is narration which sucks the viewers in and grabs their attention. The narrator is the author and he briefly introduces himself and tells the audience what he is capable of which would then leave it up to the audience to ponder on what he is going to do with his powers.

Frame 7 (Bottom Left): Genre and how the opening suggests it
The typical use of blood in extreme horrors is present in our opening and frame 7 presents a scene which shows a vulnerable female running whilst bleeding. We have also avoided from showing her face to add some mystery. This is a typical scene that you could find in many extreme horrors. The stereotype that women are weak is often shown in horrors in general which is why we chose a woman to play the victim in the chase scene.

Frame 8 (Bottom Middle): How are characters introduced
The characters are all introduced individually walking to a certain location to meet up as a group. Each character has their own camera time as they are walking towards the location. In this frame in particular, it shows Tjay walking by himself to the location and you can already analyse his personality by just looking at his facial expression and his clothes. This gives the audience a chance to determine each characters personalities and stereotypes individually before they all meet up as a group. The group also expresses their personality with their body language and their voice as they meet up.

Frame 9 (Bottom Right): Special effects
The special effects used were subtle and sometimes quite unnoticeable. for example for frame we used a video filter to make it look that dark, the room was actually rather lit up when we were filming but thanks to some clever editing the shot looked like it was taken at night. It ultimately creates a dark and mysterious atmosphere to start the film off which is very effective for setting the mood of the film early on. We also used fade to black transitions in the office scene to make the shots blend well with each other and make the scene seem less choppy.

Location Shots (Updated)

As a group we thought it would be much more practical to film next to our school (Cheney School)  because then we would be able to film quicker and easier. The group also lived rather close to Headington so it seemed logical to set our main task location in Headington.

Valencia Road (route to location)

Route Road (route to location)

Cheney School Class Room (Authors Room)
What we did with this room was cover up the windows with a curtain to make the shot much more scary and mysterious. The table was moved and we used certain props to decorate the room and make it look like a homely room.

Alley Way (In between Valencia and Greys Road)

South park (Chase scene)
We used southpark because it was very close to our school and it was not very polluted with people and distractions at the time. We used a certain location in south park for our chase scene. The section we used was more a section which looked more like the woods than the rest of the park. This was used to make the chase scene seem much more enclosed and intense.

Cabin in the woods (Location Shot)

Cabin in the woods's setting is in a rural location away from human contact which gives the sense of seclusion. We tried to replicate this in our location so that the viewers would feel the same sense of emptiness and seclusion and I think we achieved that with our location. There were no sign of other people walking around during our shots in South Park which added to the sense of loneliness and helplessness.

Main Task Soundtracks

This is one of the soundtracks that I will be sampling to use in our final task. The rising tone of the track makes it perfect to use in the start of our final task, where Christian (the evil writer) is getting ready to end his novel by writing the last kill. The soundtrack is rather smooth and constant with its piano tune but then it can be also rather eerie and mysterious at times too.

We decided to go with Dizzee Rascal - Holiday as it linked in very well with our main task and as our main task is about teenage stereotypes, and as an artist we thought that Dizzee Racial is a very new pop, rap, artist and also we found out that his main target audience is male teenagers from 16 -25. which is also very similar to ours.

How to make fake blood

We shall be following this tutorial on how to make fake blood for one of our scenes in our main task. A member of our group will be tasked with creating this fake blood and putting it on one of our female actor for the chase scene.

Movie Title

A movie title is very important, it is what viewers remember most of all which is why it was important that we not only made our title memorable but clever too. It will have to attrcat the audience and leave people intrigued. We came up with a few ideas that would leave the target audience asking for more such as In Print, Already Written and Diary. We thought Diary was the most effective because of the impact of having a single word as our title but it was not revealing enough about our movie so we changed it to Die-ary to make it much more obvious that it is a horror.

Production logo

We chose the name Colossus because we wanted to leave the impression that we were a big company with big ideas. This has also been done with companies such as Hammer Film Productions and Universal. This is to give the viewer a large and epic image in their head. The fact that we have a name which represents massive then we are going to have to have an image that everyone can recognize as being enormous but they also need to know what it is rather than just leaving a mysterious image in the audience's head. We came up with a few ideas such as an elephant or a rhino but thought they were a bit too exotic. A bear was the next best thing as it was large, recognizable and easy to remember.

Font Choice

We used the Hitman font for the title of our main task. We admired its sharp edges and the rather candle like "I". The combination of the menacing sharp edges and the sophistication of the "I" made us fall in love with it and ultimately use it for our main title font and poster text font.

Main Task Props

We are going to have the smart guy in our main task carry this bag as a brief case to show that he is sophisticated and smart.

We are also going to use a book that will act as the author's diary. The book is going to look old worn out and red the red resembles the blood of the victims he has killed with the book.

We will be using a pouring glass with tea in it to show that the author is a normal human like everyone else and that will make him relatable.

The author will also have a pen which he uses to write in his diary. This is mainly to show that the power he has to kill people by writing does not come from his pen because the pen looks very regular and simple.

Main task Script (Updated)

Official Main Script

Author: Have you ever been in that situation, where you know what the right thing to do is, but you still do wrong? That's the talent of a good author. He creates the problems for his characters. They make the choices.

Carlos walks up a road
Liza walks along the alley way and notices Carlos walking past
LIZA: CARLOS!!
T-Jay waits patiently for his friends
Jake walks up to him very excited

T-Jay: JJAAAKKKEE!!
Jake: Oh my god man, this is gonna be so good
T-Jay and Jake hug it out
Jake: Look it's Liza and Carlos
T-Jay: HEY GUYS!!
Liza: T-JAY!!
They all continue to greet each other
Jake is accidentally hit in the face
Jake: HEY MAN! What are you doing?
T-Jay: Come on, we gotta go
Jake: Yeah, come on.. The coach is already there

Wordle Image of the Official Script

The of the characters are the words which stand out the most due to the importance of the characters and the role they play in the film. Another which is highlighted and used frequently in the script is the word "HEY". This word is used frequently in the group scene to greet the characters in a casual but exited manner.

Draft Main Task Script.

Friends scene

Each character packs a case

(Tjay) Muzzy waits impatiently for friends, very eager and over-excited
(Liza) Carrie walks through the park with her case
(Carlos) Steven walks up Gipsy Lane with his case
(Jake) Conall wears his over his shoulder whilst cycling

Carrie, Steven and Conall meet at the end of Divinity Road together, give each other an exaggerated greeting. Steven and Conall high five.

(Very excited) Conall: Yeah Buddy. You ready for this?
(Steven Looks at Conall with a mixture of dissapointment and disbelief) Steven: I'm the one who organised this...
Conall looks at the floor embarrassed and whilst Carrie runs ahead to meet Muzzy.
Carrie: TJAAAYYYY!!!
(Deep masculine voice but also joking) Muzzy: LIIZZAAAAAA!!
Carrie and Muzzy drop their bags at the same time. Carrie gives Muzzy a big hug.
Steven continues to greet Muzzy in a very casual manner
(sounding very proud of himself) Steven: Mate, you've got no idea what I have ready for us in the fields. I made some calculations and if we get there by seven, we'll be in time for the twilight zone...
Muzzy: Shut up man. Let's just go and have a good time.
Conall: Hey guys, check out what I picked up (Conall opens his bag to Steven's delight. Steven's face fills with excitement.)
Carrie: Don't get that out until we get there Jake.
(Looking slightly dazed and dopey) Conall: What?
(looking at Conall dismissively) Muzzy: Nothing. Better get going yeah? I can't wait!! THIS SHIT IS GONNA GO DOWN!!
Everybody goes in for a group hug apart from Conall who stands there awkwardly because he can't reach over the bike.
They all pick up their bags and start walking down Divinity Road having a big conversation.

Why we changed the script

The reason we changed the script was because we thought that it was too long. It was important that we remained in the allotted time of two minutes and with our draft script we exceeded that time scale. I did however prefer our draft script because it portrayed the characters stereotypes much more effectively. I wish we devised a way of fitting more dialogue to flesh out our characters.

Costumes

We were aiming to mainly base our costume designs on the time of year our main task is based on, which was Summer. However, unfortunately for us we started filming in the middle of the winter. This is why most of our costume are winter based.

Christian (The Writer)
In Christians case we thought we would go with a sophisticated and sharp look. We were thinking that most extreme horror villains are usually covered in blood, wearing ragged clothing or just lurking away from sight, but we felt it would be more effective to make him look like an average man like anyone else but make him have the ability to do horrific and evil things. This draws more attention to his ability to kill people by writing their deaths in a diary.

 Liza (The Virgin/Victim)
Lots of attention and work was put into ensuring that the character would stand out and so that she is relateable to young women today. So we went with a dark red jumper which was simple but at the same time humble and comfortable. This would help people relate to her much more easily because she look just like any other ordinary girl. We also wanted to make her look pure and innocent, that's why she is not wearing any make-up.

Tjay (The Jock)

Carlos (The Smart Guy)

Jake (The Stoner)

In the case of Carlos, Jake, CJ. Their costumes were not given that much attention because they were not the main characters. Firstly with Tjay we went for a very casual white sports hooded jumper because he is the jock. His costume also consists of jeans and nice trainers. Now on the other hand we have Carlos, he is supposed to be the sophisticated and clever person in the group and his outfit certainly implies that. His costume consists of smart glasses, suit jacket, shirt, cardigan, jeans and nice trainers. all these items of clothing come together to make him seem neat and sophisticated. Finally we have Jake. Jake is a fun loving fellow, full of spirit and joy and I think his outfit certainly signifies it. He is wearing a fun and colourful shirt with a nice back pack and green chinos. Purposely not matching to give the impression that he doesn't care about his image.

Teaser Pitch

Teaser Pitch 1

Teaser Pitch 2
Young horror script writer, Christian Howl and his new fiance take to the woods looking for new inspiration. Can they survive his imagination?
Teaser Pitch 3
A group of teenage friends on their summer holiday, escape to the woodlands. As Christian's story continues, so does their torture.

Final Teaser Pitch
A group of teenage friends on their summer holiday, escape to the woodlands. As Christian Howl's story continues, can they survive his imagination?

Feedback from other groups

Our target audience said that the first pitch didn't match out sub-genre, so we decided to change it as you can see in in the seconded teaser pitch. They also said we were giving to much away with the idea of the plot, and the fact that he sounded to educational did not fit with our sub-genre once again.

Another thing that came up from our feedback was that we were giving to much away. at the start about the character by saying that he was a 'horror writer' and 'seeking new inspiration' which leaves them knowing what is going to happen as we did not want this we made it shorter, and make sure that the last sentence leaves them wanting more.

One other thing that came up was the main characters name as our target audience said that they didn't like it and that it that the main characters second name should sound more evil such as 'howl', so as you can see we changed the main characters name into 'Christian Howl' we liked this name as a group as it doesn't give to much away, also the use of a protagonists being a group of teenagers which our target audience can relate to.

Main Task Story Board

Establishing shot used to show where the action is set and giving the viewer a sense of emersion in our film early on. This is going to be an extreme long shot of south park. some relaxing music is going to be played through out this and the next shot to comfort the viewer.

This shot is used to give the viewer a closer insight to the location. It also sets the scene and relaxes the viewer before the chase scene begins.

This shot is used to present a woman standing and breathing heavily. We see that she is injured and out of breath. She is going to be surrounded by trees. The relaxing music suddenly stops and and dramatic music starts to gently creep in.

Dramatic music picks up the pace and becomes more tense. The woman has noticed someone is chasing her and she starts running. Camera will be panning to follow her as she runs.

The purpose of this scene is to show the emotions of the girl. She will be breathing heavily and she will  be crying. However she will also be looking back in this scene.

The previous scene will be followed by a shot of the writer (Connal) writing. This will be set in a dimly lit room. This will be the introduction to the character. However throughout this whole scene his face will not be shown clearly. This is going to be set in one of the classrooms in Cheney but we are going to do our best to ensure that it doesn't look like one. We are also going to be using artificial light however we are going to try and dim the light to ensure we keep that eery feeling through out this scene.

This shot is used to show what the writer is writing in much better detail. This shot will be completely quite. making it seem mysterious and awkward which is exactly what we want the viewer feeling.

This is the scene where the writer lifts his head up to think, as he does we are going to have a close up of his face. We will not be seeing his face clearly, it will be completely shadowed. This also adds to the suspense and the mystery of this character and hopefully make the audience intrigued.

This scene will be a completely change of pace compared to the office scene. This shot is specifically used to show where this scene is set, it allows the viewer to see the background and the surroundings. we use a long shot so that it portrays the whole house, the characters and the car in one shot.

This scene includes a bunch of teenage friends packing their stuff and walking over to the car which is parked outside connal's house. Some smooth and cheerful music is played in the background during this scene. We also feel that we could include a little bit of the credits on the screen too as this is happening.

This scene is of the car driving away as the camera pans with it. There will be several houses shown in the background. Upbeat music is continually playing through this scene to relax the audience and help them get much more immersed into this short film.

This shot is the final shot to end the video is a shot of the car close up then driving off eventually turning it into an extreme long shot. The car will just be continuously driving off into the distance and the clip will come to an end with a fade to black transition.

The Changes Made

We made some drastic and last minute changes to our opening scene to accommodate for some unfortunate news. Such as the fact that we lost one of our actors. She was unable to be in our opening which ignited a range of changes to the opening. Such as the addition of a different female actor. However there were some other changes that were brought around due to inconvenience and general ineffectiveness. For example, the car scene. We thought that it may be too difficult to get a driver, a car and have the whole acting and filming crew there at the same time. Another change that we thought would add to the effectiveness of our opening was the addition of the group scene. This is the scene where the characters engage in a piece of dialogue. We thought this was a crucial scene to add to help flesh out the characters and express their stereotypes. We also changed the order of certain scenes especially the establishing shot. We changed the establishing shot to give the audience a chance to get to know the villain in the film and express his personality through an inner monologue right at the start of the film. We think that the changes we made added to the overall effectiveness and enjoyment of our opening scene.
